The National Security Authority (Autorità Nazionale per la Sicurezza – ANS) resorts to the Central Security Office (Ufficio Centrale per la Sicurezza - U.C.Si.) to grant security clearance to persons, bodies, business enterprises and companies having to deal with classified information. The application procedure to obtain a preventive security clearance is described below. Enterprises and/or private bodies obtaining a preventive security clearance can deliver classified supplies after adapting - when necessary – their production plants upon instructions of the National Security Authority. As relates to natural persons who either personally or individually or on behalf of professionals’ associations have to carry out activities deriving from a contract with enterprises and civil or military bodies requiring security clearance, such application shall be submitted only by the enterprise or body employing them, as it is the sole institution responsible for security compliance. Firms and enterprises doing classified work using software programmes need a specific approval for such programmes. The National Security Authority is supported by the Central Security Office (UCSI) in granting the above mentioned approval.
